Parece que empieza a cundir la moda de formar lo que en los sesenta y los setenta se solía llamar supergrupos. Primero fue The Dead Weather, con integrantes de The White Stripes, The Kills, The Raconteurs y Queens of the Stone Age. Luego fue Monsters of Folk, con cuatro notables cantautores del llamado folk alternativo, entre ellos M. Ward y Conor Oberst. Ahora llega la muy anunciada reunion de tres músicos de indiscutible talento y prestigio: Josh Home (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal), Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) y nada menos que el más que legendario John Paul Jones, ex bajista y tecladista de Led Zeppelin.
Lo que muchos pensaban era una improbable fantasia se ha concretado con la aparición del album homónimo de este trio que se presenta bajo el nombre de Them Crooked Vultures.
En realidad, la idea y los primeros ensayos surgieron hace cuatro años, en la ciudad de Los Ángeles, California. Ya en ese tiempo, Grohl declaraba a la revista Mojo que “el próximo proyecto que iniciaré me involucra como baterista otra vez y será al lado de Josh Homme como guitarrista y de John Paul Jones como bajista”. Por su lado, la esposa de Homme comentó hace unos meses que aunque no estaba autorizada para revelar detalles del grupo, “(el mismo) está sorprendentemente chigón, suena como algo que jamás has oído”.
En realidad, si bien Them Crookes Vultures se oye fantástico, no se trata de una banda que descubra el hilo negro y nos entregue un sonido nunca antes escuchado (algo prácticamente imposible a estas alturas de la historia del rock). Lo que hay en su música, sin embargo, es una perfecta fusion de los largos y pesados bagajes que trae cada uno de sus integrantes. Ahí están la complejidad armónica y el poderío rockbluesero de Led Zeppelin, la dureza punk y el estruendo grunge de Nirvana y las peculiaridades heterodoxas de las composiciones de Queens of the Stone Age. ¿No es eso más que suficiente como para decir que se trata de una de las más afortunadas combinaciones de talento de las que se tenga memoria en años?

Them Crooked Vultures ha tenido algunas actuaciones desde principios de agosto pasado (su presentación en sociedad fue el día 9 de ese mes, en la ciudad de Chicago y diez días después tocó en Melkweg, Holanda, donde inició una mini gira europea que incluyó tres conciertos en Inglaterra). En octubre realizó un periplo por distintos puntos de los Estados Unidos y en diciembre regresará a Europa.
Por otra parte, este 17 de noviembre aparecerá el album Them Crooked Vultures, editado por Interscope Records y que será distribuido a nivel mundial por Sony Music.

Ojalá quien escribió la nota tenga razón y sí sea un buen disco, pues en varias ocasiones estos experimentos han salido fallidos.
Tengo por ahí uno de Glen Tipton (de Judas), John Entwistle (de The Who) y Cozy Powell (Rainbow entre otros) que está bastante malo.
Hace poco sacaron uno Chad Smith (de RHCP), Sammy Hagar (Ex- Van Halen), Michael Anthony (otro corrido de Van Halen) y Joe Satriani que prometía mucho ... yo me imaginaba algo como el Van Halen ochentero y por supuesto con grandiosos solos de de guitarra y pues todo eso brilla por su ausencia ... creo que no les salió y los que perdemos somos los que queremos seguir escuchando buen rock.

disco escuchado en su totalidad y la promesa mesianica de buen Rock fue cumplida. excelente pieza, increible y macizo ensamble de 3 leyendas (claro que si) en distintas epocas de la historia de la musica contemporanea. todos cumplen y colocan lo suficiente del pasado de cada quien para no malograr la obra sino lleavarla a su justo nivel, recomendable 100%

Lo mejor que he oido en años... (y tengo 28 vividos) es realmente impresionante la fuerza y energia de la musica que hicieron estos 3 fabulosos músico. Amo el disco, me hace sentir muuuuuuucho, me encanta.
Ahh, será la nostalgia pero siempre me ha gustado mucho más la faceta percusionista de Dave Grohl y cuando tocó "No One Knows" con Queens of the Stone Age, me emocioné bastante y esperaba mucho más… Y de verdad tuve que esperar un buen rato para que se concretara un proyecto con él en los tambores y qué mejor que la guitarra filosa de Joshito para acompañar a este par de bestiecillas que tan buenas marcas han dejado en generaciones diferentes.
